We publish books that refuse to be forgotten.

Vendolius Publishing is an independent press devoted to the strange, the literary, the funny, the terrifying, and the true. We are based in the Pacific Northwest and guided by a single conviction: that the right book at the right moment can change a reader’s life.

An independent press with an uncompromising eye

Vendolius was founded on a straightforward premise: that independent publishing, done with care and conviction, can still find and sustain writers whose work would otherwise go unread. We do not publish by committee. We do not publish by algorithm. We publish what moves us.

Our list spans speculative fiction, science fiction, literary and general fiction, non-fiction, weird fiction, horror, and humor and satire — not because we lack focus, but because we believe the boundaries between genres are less interesting than the writers who ignore them.

Our first season makes the point. In 2027 we publish a speculative novel about a child no one can explain, a book of comic stories about one deeply eventful Oregon neighborhood, and seven linked works that follow humanity to the edge of creation.

The work first

Every acquisition decision begins and ends with the manuscript. Commercial considerations are secondary to our conviction that the book is necessary.

Long-term partnership

We sign authors, not titles. We are committed to building careers and audiences over time, through multiple books and multiple seasons.

Craft without compromise

From editorial to design to paper stock, every element of a Vendolius book is considered. Presentation is inseparable from content.

Rooted in place

The Pacific Northwest is not our backdrop — it is our sensibility. Its strangeness, its scale, and its particular quality of light inform everything we do.

Born of rain and old growth

We are a Pacific Northwest press in the deepest sense — not just located here, but shaped by this place. The Northwest has always produced writers who understand the uncanny, who are comfortable with ambiguity, who know how to hold silence as well as language. Ursula K. Le Guin. Raymond Carver. The tradition is long and it is alive.

We publish from within that tradition, and we are always looking for the writers who will extend it — regardless of where they were born or where they live now. What matters is the quality of attention they bring to the page.

The road to our first list

Where we’ve been, and the dates we’re working toward.

  1. 2025

    The press is founded

Vendolius Publishing is established in the Pacific Northwest with a simple brief: publish the books that move us, and publish them beautifully.

  2. 2026

    Our first list is announced

Three books from three new voices are set for publication across 2027.

  3. Feb 1, 2027

    Dimensions by Salvador Voss

Our first book: a near-future speculative novel about a child found adrift at sea.

  4. Apr 1, 2027

    Twilight Neighborhood by Hollis Wetherby

Interconnected comic stories from an ordinary Oregon neighborhood with extraordinary neighbors.

  5. Later in 2027

Seven Horizons by E. M. Halwick

Seven interconnected works of speculative fiction, from managing Earth’s climate to designing reality itself.

We are not trying to publish every book. We are trying to publish the books that could not exist anywhere else — the ones that needed exactly this press, at this particular moment.
